Biography

Lee Shumway was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. Shumway started his acting career landing roles in such films as "Brawn of the North" (1922), "The Man From Red Gulch" (1925) and "One Minute to Play" (1926). He also appeared in the Andre DeBeranger adaptation "The Bat" (1926), the western "The Last Trail" (1927) with Tom Mix and the western "Outlaws of Red River" (1927) with Tom Mix. His film career continued throughout the thirties in productions like the Paul Muni crime flick "I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang" (1932), "Outlawed Guns" (1935) and the Johnny Mack Brown western "Branded a Coward" (1935). He also appeared in "The Mysterious Mr. Wong" (1935) with Bela Lugosi. In the latter half of his career, he continued to act in "Windjammer" (1937) with George O'Brien, the Buck Jones drama "Hollywood Round-Up" (1937) and the western "Rawhide" (1938) with Lou Gehrig. He also appeared in "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie" (1940) with Johnny Mack Brown and "Deadwood Dick" (1940). Shumway more recently acted in the Richard Arlen western "Buffalo Bill Rides Again" (1947). Shumway passed away in January 1959 at the age of 75.
