Biography
Former reporter and editor who began his film career in 1911 as a screenwriter and publicity director for Rex Films. Just one year later, Schulberg joined Adolph Zukor's Famous Players, where he helped publicize "Queen Elizabeth". He then became an independent producer and launched the career or Clara Bow, the 'It Girl'. He began producing for Paramount in 1925 and, several years later, served as general manager of their West Coast operation. Schulberg again tried his hand at independent production in 1932 and was subsequently affiliated with a number of Hollywood outfits, though he had trouble finding work following WWII. Father of screenwriter and novelist, Budd Schulberg.
