Ray, a car thief, inveigles Sheila, a country girl, into a fake marriage, and both are arrested as thieves. Sheila serves a 2-year sentence and is released. Ray and Martin Norries, another convict, escape, and when Ray goes to Sheila's boardinghouse he is rearrested. He gives her Norries' address, suggesting that she steal the fortune hidden there. She follows his advice and flees to South Africa, but there she encounters Norries. She confesses the theft: they fall in love and marry, Sheila believing Ray to be dead. They return to the United States, and Sheila learns that her marriage to Ray was a fake.
