Synopsis

Sir Reginald Belsize's eccentric uncle dies leaving him his fortune on the condition that he give up Helen, with whom he is infatuated, and marry another girl within 24 hours. His lawyer, John Travers, who is also counselor for Katherine Silverton, at the moment in financial straits, proposes to marry Katherine to the Belsize fortune; Helen agrees to this arrangement provided that the girl, whom she has not seen, is less attractive than herself. Katherine, therefore, adopts a plain appearance, but on the train to Paris, Belsize discovers that she is a beautiful and cultured young lady. A wire from Travers informs him that a detective with a black moustache is following him, forcing him to make open demonstrations of affection to his bride; to complicate matters, Katherine hires eight men with black moustaches to follow them. The intrigue of Helen and Rafael, her former lover, is exposed after amusing complications, and Belsize and Katherine realize their mutual love.
