Biography

After graduating from Hofstra University in New York, Beau Starr played professional football in Canada before his first television appearance on the risqué 1980 Canadian sketch comedy show "Bizarre." Eventually he relocated to Los Angeles where he embarked on a full-time acting career, and it wasn't long before he began landing roles on hit television shows like the 1982 William Shatner cop drama "T.J. Hooker." In the early days, his tough-guy looks and formidable height sometimes helped him snag villain roles, as he did in the action series "The Fall Guy" in 1983 and the sci-fi series "V" in 1985. More often, however, he appeared in the role of police officers, like in the sitcom "Three's Company" in 1983, and the Steve Martin comedy "The Lonely Guy" in 1984. Eventually, the bad guy roles became a thing of the past and police officers became the norm. In 1994, he landed in one of his best-known roles, playing a Chicago police lieutenant in the Canadian police drama/comedy "Due South," which was about a displaced Mountie working in Chicago. He is also often recognized for his portrayal of Sheriff Ben Meeker in 1988's fourth entry in the "Halloween" horror franchise, as well as its 1989 follow-up, "Halloween 5."
