Synopsis
The career of "Steady" Eddie Everett, a pitcher for the Anaheim Angels, is on a downturn as are the fortunes of his team ever since his errors cost the team the American League pennant in 1992. To make matters worse, his estranged wife, Claire, informs Eddie that their 13-year-old daughter, Laurel, will be living with him for the next six months. Eddie, who has not even seen his daughter in six years, is horrified at the idea, but father and daughter are stuck with each other. In answer to Laurel's prayers that heaven gives Eddie another chance, a team of baseball-playing angels led by Bob Bugler, who is trying to earn his wings, comes to Earth to help Eddie and his team.
As father and daughter draw closer together, Laurel beseeches her father to believe in himself. With the help of the angels, the Anaheim Angels go on a winning streak. Unhappy about this situation, the Devil makes a pact with Eddie's old foe, Randy Fleck, to win the pennant for the Arizona Crimson Devils and ruin Eddie's life. At the championship game, some devils get into the game. Bob is outraged, but it's against the rules of heaven for him to intervene in championship games and there is nothing he can do. It's up to Eddie alone to discover if he's got what it takes.
