Synopsis
François Rauchelle, a young veterinarian in a French seacoast village, is called out to care for a sick cheetah belonging to Myriam Heller, a former African explorer who practices voodoo. François finds himself strangely attracted to Myriam and eventually becomes her lover, but he refuses to abandon his wife and return to Africa with Myriam. Catherine then has a series of mysterious accidents; and François, concluding that Myriam's sorcery is responsible, agrees to go away with her to save his wife's life. As they are departing, their car stalls on a flooding causeway. They make their way through the water to a lighthouse shelter, where Myriam realizes she has taken the wrong suitcase and insists upon returning to the car. The current pulls her under, providing François with the opportunity to free his wife of Myriam's spell, and he lets her drown. Sometime later, Catherine confesses to François that it was she who arranged the mysterious accidents to influence his decision not to leave her. With feelings of guilt and remorse, François walks out on Catherine and goes to inform the police that he could have prevented Myriam's death.
