Synopsis

In Paris in 1939, Col. Charles Waslow-Carton persuades Denise Marchois, a fellow member of French Intelligence, to marry Baron Frederich von Wittenberg, live with him in Germany, and pretend to defect from France. Four years later, when a newly-developed German torpedo is sinking many Allied ships, Waslow-Carton and two associates (American Air Force officer Braden and an English demolition expert, Peyton-Reid) parachute into Germany and pose as prisoners in a German labor camp near Kiel, where the torpedo factory is situated. Assisted by Ladislov, a Polish agent who is a guard at the factory, the three men determine in which plant the torpedo is assembled. Waslow-Carton goes to von Wittenberg's house disguised as an electrician and gives the information to Denise, who, in turn, transmits it to London. Peyton-Reid, escaping after Allied bombers demolish the factory, is killed by a German patrol, but Waslow-Carton and Braden successfully reach the von Wittenberg home. There Denise informs them that Polish Resistance workers are standing by to aid them in removing one of the torpedoes so that its workings may be studied in France. They steal the torpedo, but the submarine that was to transport them cannot get through, and Waslow-Carton and Braden are forced to take the torpedo to a waiting plane at a nearby airstrip. Denise tells Waslow-Carton that she intends to remain in Germany to continue her work and be with her husband, whom she now loves. The plane takes off just as a German patrol opens fire.
