Synopsis
When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they leave their magical world and end up in the middle of Central Park. The Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

Based on the animated TV series "Smurfs" (1981-1989/NBC) produced by Hanna-Barbera.
The Smurfs were created by Peyo and first published in "Le Journal de Spirou" on October 23, 1958.
Paramount bought the film rights to the characters intending to produce a trilogy of films.
Project was previously in development at Paramount Pictures.
Wide Release in United States Summer July 29, 2011 (3850+ Digital 3D)
Film was the first to receive financing through the Hemisphere Tentpole Co-Financing Fund and included an "ultimates" deal through which the amount of Hemisphere's investment is tied to the film's early box office performance.
