Synopsis

An Uncle Tom's Cabin troupe traveling through Kansas is left high and dry by their manager, Ed Bondell, when he absconds with their meager stake. Hattie Hartley, the fifth in a line of thespian Little Evas, falls for Mal Thorne, another member of the troupe, but it appears that she will marry local undertaker Newton Wampler, whose wealth will keep the show alive and send her sister Oriole to school. When Thorne secures the act a billing, the altar-bound Hattie is replaced as Eva by Oriole, and so desirous of regaining her old part is she that a lethal dose of candy to her sister does she feed. The sweet supper takes its toll midway through the show, allowing Hattie to step into her old shoes, and Thorne and her to marry.
