Synopsis
Aircraftsman Alexander Wood, a mechanic in the RAF, is forever fixing things, an obsession leading to such disastrous accidents as the premature launching of rocket missiles and the wrecking of aircraft. As a result, his group captain, distraught by this threat to his own promotion, tries to get Wood dismissed from the service. But en route to his home for discharge, Wood fixes the train's heating system and then disappears. As an extensive search is organized, Wood, unaware of the panic he is causing, conscientiously tries to get back to camp. He meets and falls in love with Jean Briggs, a comely WRAF who has the same destination. After accidentally flooding all of South Wales and blacking out the area's electrical supply, he arrives back at his base. The group captain's delight at retrieving him is suddenly shattered by the arrival of the air minister. Wood attempts to fix something for the minister, and the group captain's frantic effort to stop him results in a final, disastrous calamity.
