Synopsis

When "Silent Budd" Marr finally strikes gold in the Arizona desert, he rushes his claim to the government land office in Bakeoven and heads for "Handsome Jack" Pressley's saloon to celebrate. With the help of Ames Mitchell, the saloon owner, Pressley tricks Marr at the gambling tables and jumps his valuable claim. To retaliate, Marr holds up the stagecoach carrying his gold ore, abducts Betty Bryce, a Virginia girl whom Pressley has duped into a bigamous marriage, and leaves her and David, her sickly brother, in the mountains with "Preaching Bill" Hardy. Despite Marr's sincere protests, Betty refuses to believe the truth about Pressley and rejects Marr's friendship. A posse headed by Pressley rides after Marr, who allows himself to be arrested so that David may collect the reward money. At Marr's trial, a surprise witness, a secret government agent, exposes Pressley as the real criminal and Betty pledges her love to the vindicated silent man.
