Synopsis

In the early 1970s, American Michael Flaherty returns from fighting in Vietnam and tries to decide what to do with his life. Remembering his grandfather's stories about his early days fighitng with the Irish Republican Army against the British, Michael goes to Belfast to fight for home rule. But he is not made welcome as a soldier or activist. He soon learns that his importance is as a symbol, and that the IRA are planning on having him kiled and blaming his death on the British army to get financial support from America.
