Synopsis

A three-part dramatic recreation of the first encounters between English explorers and Native American Indians between the years 1584 and 1590, when the British landed on Roanoak Island to begin trading with the Algonquian-speaking Indians. The drama is based on hundreds of pages written by the explorers, various documents, and the watercolors of English artist, John White, who was the expedition's artist. The drama follows the general outline of the history of the Roanoak voyages, and recreates the story from the vantage point of the Native Americans, as well as that of the English. The native Americans who act in the drama speak in Ojibwe, a modern-day Algonquian language, and subtitles are used.
