Synopsis

In this study of the fortunes of a working-class German family between 1931 and 1945, two brothers (John Shea and Bill Nighy) find themselves on opposite sides of the Third Reich. The secondary characters, curiously, were of more interest, especially David Warner in the role of Reinhard Heydrich, which he had done earlier in "Holocaust," and Tony Randall as Putzi, an effeminate, anti-Nazi nightclub performer (a counterpart of sorts to Joel Grey's Emcee in "Cabaret"), in one of the campiest performances on television in years.
