Synopsis
A two-part miniseries tracing the life and career of Oliver North. Part I begins in 1964, when the 21-year-old North survives a serious car accident. The young midshipman struggles to re-enter the Naval Academy, enters the Marine Corps, serves in Vietnam, and moves to Washington to work for the National Security Council, where he rises quickly through its ranks. In Part II, CIA Director William Casey and North develop a close relationship, eventually starting up a covert and illegal operation to continue support to the contras in Nicaragua at a time when such aid was outlawed by Congress, ultimately using profits from a secret arms deal with Iran for the purpose. Eventually a news report in Beirut brings the operation out into the open. Fired by President Reagan, North takes the Fifth Ammendment before a Senate committee and begins work on his legal defense after he is indicted on criminal charges.
