Synopsis
The story of a drag queen who learns to open his heart when he begins caring for a young girl whose mother is battling a drug addiction.
For years, Holiday Heart has been living in the past. Devastated by the loss of his lover, a respected member of the Chicago police force, who kept Holiday as "his little secret," Holiday spends his days thumbing through old photographs and keeps his apartment as a shrine to happier times. The 50-year-old drag queen by night, choir director by day, is stuck in the 1970s and is finding it increasingly difficult to face himself in the mirror each night. Holiday escapes his self-inflicted tumult by listening to French lessons on tape, and dreaming of someday traveling to Paris. One fateful day, Holiday meets 12-year-old Nikki and her mother, Wanda, an aspiring poet with a history of drug addiction.
Wanda and Nikki move into an adjoining apartment and soon the three are watching movies together as a family. For the first time, Holiday feels needed. For a while, their home becomes a happy one -- at least until Wanda falls for a flashy drug dealer named Silas. Holiday takes an immediate dislike to Silas. Before long, Silas moves in with Wanda and Nikki and he tells Holiday to leave his new family alone. Deeply hurt, Holiday reluctantly carries on with his life. But Wanda is headed for trouble again; she reconnects with her old addictions. Silas realizes that Wanda's addiction is terminal and knows he can't change the situation. With nowhere else to turn, Silas implores Holiday to save Nikki. It's up to Holiday Heart to leave his sadness behind and embrace a positive future for himself and Nikki, making it possible for her to have the kind of life her mother desperately wanted for her.
