Synopsis
A three-part miniseries based on the events surrounding the 1985 abduction and murder by drug traffickers in Guadalajara, Mexico, of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a U.S. agent of the Drug Enforcement Agency. His death helped expose the underworld of South America's drug cartel and its influence on powerful interests in the Mexican government.

During the final minutes of each part of this miniseries, NBC News aired special reports, hosted by Tom Brokaw, examining the United States' role in the war against drugs. The telecast on January 7 ran approximately 15 minutes; on January 8, about 10; on January 9, about 5. Joseph Angotti and Lloyd Siegel produced the special reports, in which the following special guests appeared: U.S. Representative Charles Rangel; John Lawn, chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration; James Garule, chief U.S. prosecutor in the Camarena case; Elaine Shannon, author of the book "Desperados," on which the miniseries is based.
