Biography

Andras Hamori began producing films in 1985, working on small productions and B films in his native Canada. In 1996, he started collaborating with David Cronenberg--who had undergone a similar apprenticeship in the Canadian film industry in the 1970s--and produced the cult director's quirky erotic drama "Crash," starring James Spader and Holly Hunter and based on the novel by J.G. Ballard. The following year, Hamori produced acclaimed director Atom Egoyan's Oscar-nominated movie "The Sweet Hereafter." He teamed again with Cronenberg in 1999, in the sci-fi thriller "eXistenZ," starring Jude Law, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Willem Dafoe. That same year, he also was nominated for a European Film Award for István Szabó's "Sunshine," a drama about three generations of a Hungarian family dealing with the Holocaust, starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. In 2009 Hamori produced Stephen Frears's period piece "Cheri," which featured Michelle Pfeiffer in her critically acclaimed comeback role as a courtesan in love with a much younger man, who was played by Rupert Friend.
