He had an early role on the television special "Steeltown" (CBS, 1978-79). He also appeared in the TV movie "Friendly Fire" (ABC, 1978-79). Geer worked in television around the start of his acting career with a role on "M*A*S*H" (CBS, 1972-1983). In the nineties and the early 2000s, he acted in the Julia Roberts hit action movie "The Pelican Brief" (1993), "4am - Open All Night" (1999) and "The Contender" (2000). He also worked in television around this time, including a part on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (NBC, 1999-). Geer also appeared in "The Tavern" (2000), "Garmento" (2003) and the Denzel Washington smash hit crime drama "American Gangster" (2007). He also appeared in the comedic action flick "The Men Who Stare at Goats" (2009) with George Clooney. Most recently, Geer acted in the Jennifer Connelly romance "Shelter" (2015).
