Biography
Juvenile lead of the silent era whose acting career faded with the advent of sound. Agnew acted in supporting roles in many films of the 1920s, including ones starring Gloria Swanson ("Bluebeard's Eighth Wife" 1923) and Eleanor Boardman ("Wine of Youth" 1924). He also played leading roles in such features as "Troubles of a Bride" (1924), "The Great Love" (1925), "Racing Blood" (1926) and "Wild Oats Lane" (1926), the last opposite Viola Dana. Agnew's acting career petered out shortly after the coming of sound; one of his last roles was a small part in the delightful all-star musical "Golddiggers of 1933" (1933) featuring classic numbers staged by Busby Berkeley. Agnew later found work as an assistant director on "King Dinosaur" (1955) and "Cry Baby Killer" (1958), among others, and as unit manager for the cult classic "Beach Party" (1963).
