Man On A Tightrope (1953) -- (Movie Clip) There'll Be Plenty Of Charges Notable in that director Elia Kazan had recently surrendered names of Communist Party members to congress, and actor Adolphe Menjou was one of Hollywood’s leading anti-Communists, here playing a Czechoslovak propaganda officer, collared by a superior (Philip Kenneally) for going soft on a wayward circus troupe, in Man On A Tightrope, 1953.
Man On A Tightrope (1953) -- (Movie Clip) Czechoslovakia, 1952 Opening with noise and some scale, shooting on location in Bavaria, Germany, director Elia Kazan introduces leading man Fredric March as circus boss Cernik, Gloria Grahame his wife, Paul Hartman his aide, Terry Moore his daughter, Cameron Mitchell her friend, in the feature Kazan made after Viva Zapata! but before On The Waterfront, Man On A Tightrope, 1953.
Man On A Tightrope (1953) -- (Movie Clip) Show Your Teeth! Ever-interesting work by director Elia Kazan, Gloria Grahame as the maybe-straying circus manager’s wife Zama, determined to flirt with the worried lion tamer (Alex D’Arcy), then another relationship emphasizing idyllic Bavarian locations, with the manager’s daughter Terry Moore and boyfriend Cameron Mitchell, in Man On A Tightrope, 1953.
Man On A Tightrope (1953) -- (Movie Clip) This Is Considered Amusing? Summoned by officials of the communist Czechoslovak government, circus manager Cernik (Fredric March) explains to interrogator John Dehner about his staff, and his difficulty in presenting politically skewed skits, with propagandist Adolphe Menjou listening, in Elia Kazan’s Man On A Tightrope, 1953.
Best Years Of Our Lives, The (1946) -- (Movie Clip) He's Home! Among the most famous, and probably best scenes Myrna Loy ever played, as Milly, wife of WWII veteran Al Stephenson (Fredric March), surprising her and the kids (Teresa Wright, Michael Hall) with his slightly-early return home, in William Wyler's The Best Years Of Our Lives, 1946.
Best Years Of Our Lives, The (1946) -- (Movie Clip) Wanna See The Freak? Big moment for novice actor Harold Russell, in the role that won him two Academy Awards, as veteran Homer, some weeks into his return home, girlfriend Wilma (Cathy O'Donnell) insisting nothing has changed, Marlene Aames his young sister, in William Wyler's The Best Years Of Our Lives, 1946,
Waterloo Bridge (1931) -- (Movie Clip) This Your First Air Raid? On the titular bridge from the same angle seen in MGM's better-known remake, American working-girl Myra (Mae Clarke) meets a dotty pedlar (Rita Carlisle) then Roy (Kent Douglass), an American serving with the Canadians, during a WWI London Zeppelin raid, in James Whale's Waterloo Bridge, 1931.
Waterloo Bridge (1931) -- (Movie Clip) Nothing Will Come Of It Roy (Kent Douglass) is an American stationed in England during WWI, visiting the country home of his mother (Enid Bennett) and English stepfather (Frederick Kerr) but the scene belongs to his sister, Bette Davis, in her last of three films for Universal, the original Waterloo Bridge, 1931.
Abe Lincoln In Illinois (1940) -- (Movie Clip) Get Them Pigs! Offut (Harlan Briggs) with Abe (Raymond Massey) and pals guiding their boat downriver with pigs, a mishap, and the hero meets Ann Rutledge (Mary Howard), a citizen of New Salem, early in Abe Lincoln In Illinois, 1940, from Robert E. Sherwood's play and screenplay.
Abe Lincoln In Illinois (1940) -- (Movie Clip) Ignorance Is No Obstacle Mourning Abe (Raymond Massey) departs New Salem to begin his legislative career, ending it in the following scene which introduces friendly rival Stephen Douglas (Gene Lockhart), in director John Cromwell's Abe Lincoln In Illinois, 1940, from Robert E. Sherwood's play and screenplay.
Abe Lincoln In Illinois (1940) -- (Movie Clip) New Champion Town bully Jack (Howard da Silva) struts before citizens including Ann Rutledge (Mary Howard), eventually luring new-in-town Abe (Raymond Massey) into fisticuffs, early in Abe Lincoln In Illinois, 1940, from the Robert E. Sherwood play.
Abe Lincoln In Illinois (1940) -- (Movie Clip) Self Made Man At a party hosted by the Edwards (Harvey Stephens, Dorothy Tree), we meet Mary Todd (Ruth Gordon), pursued by Douglas (Gene Lockhart), until Abe (Raymond Massey), with Joshua Speed (Minor Watson), arrives, in Abe Lincoln In Illinois, 1940.
