A character actor and occasional writer/director with deep Oklahoma roots, Robert Peters has created a long career primarily out of playing small parts in a wide range of film and television productions. After his initial screen appearances in the late 1980s, Peters started winning minor roles in major Hollywood movies, including the thriller "In the Line of Fire" (1993). Often cast as an authority figure, he was featured in numerous one-off parts throughout the '90s and 2000s, playing a cop on "The Practice" (ABC, 1997-2004) and a military man on "The X-Files" (Fox, 1993-2002). Though frequently a player in low-profile productions, Peters has appeared in acclaimed films including the immigration drama "A Better Life" (2011) and the Steven Spielberg historical epic "Lincoln" (2012), always lending an unassuming authenticity to every part.
Born in Tulsa, Peters eventually left his native Oklahoma for California and began his career with bit roles in various features, most notably portraying a hunter who encounters John Malkovich's psychopathic character in the 1993 Clint Eastwood-led thriller "In the Line of Fire." Juggling film and TV parts, Peters later had brief guest spots on the popular shows "The Practice" and "The X-Files," amidst an array of background movie turns, often without the benefit of a character name. In 1999, Peters made his debut as a writer and director with the lauded comedic short "Mutual Love Life" and continued to dabble behind the camera from time to time, most significantly with the 2006 low-budget feature "Half Empty." Breaking from typical one-off TV form, he had a rare multi-episode stint on the supernatural series "Angel" (WB, 1999-2004) and another one on the family drama "Everwood" (WB, 2002-06). After short screen time in "A Better Life" and "Lincoln," Peters returned to Oklahoma for "Home Run" (2013), a thoughtful baseball drama.
