Synopsis

Daffy, a teenaged girl, runs away from her foster parents in New York to find her real father, a Los Angeles businessman. On the road, she hitches a ride with a man who tries to assault her and steal her money, but she manages to escape and make her way to a roadside restaurant where she meets Fargo, a young drifter. He allows Daffy to travel with him and soon teaches her how to survive on the road without money. One night they are caught in a railroad car and arrested, but they are released when Fargo tells the police that they are married. After Fargo recovers from a fever, they arrive in Los Angeles and visit Mr. Collinge, Daffy's father, who seems glad to see her. Her foster parents arrive the next day, and Fargo learns from them that Collinge once had a brief affair with Daphne's mother, but they were never married. Daffy finally learns the truth, and although she realizes that her foster parents truly love her, she decides to stay with Fargo.
