Synopsis
A group of small ranchers is under attack by gunmen hired by the Cattle Company. Tulliver, the head of the company, is trying to drive the small ranchers out of business so that the company can use their range land for its own cattle. Rancher Markham is one of the targets and his ranch hand, Thorne, is in reality working for Tulliver. Markham travels to town with his daughter Joan to confront Tulliver. While the two quarrel in the saloon, a fight breaks out over a card game, and Joan, who is in the line of fire, is saved from injury by gunman Blackie Weed, who is really a government agent working undercover. Tulliver offers Blackie and his sidekick, Joe Kearney, a job, but Blackie does not like Tulliver and refuses the offer. Looking for a place to stay, Blackie and Joe try the Markham ranch, where they are offered work. Blackie explains to Joan how he became a "two-gun man" with an ambition to settle down as sheriff in some small town. On Tulliver's orders, Thorne frames Blackie for a raid on Markham's cattle. Instead of dismissing Blackie, however, Markham decides to test him by secretly watching him. Then Thorne kills Riggs, the foreman, and frames Blackie for the murder. Blackie is arrested, but escapes to Tulliver's office, where he fights with Thorne, who has followed him there. During the fight, Blackie loses his deputy marshal's star. When Thorne finds it, he knows that Blackie is a government agent and informs Tulliver of the fact. In the following shootout between Blackie and Tulliver's men, Blackie wins with Joe's help. Joan is left to help the wounded Blackie and lets him know that she has changed her mind about "two-gun men."
