Synopsis
The Thayer family, which consists of Grandma and Grandpa, widower Jeff and his sons Jack and Chet, celebrate Chet's return from Africa with a few of their friends, Jill and Alice Fenwick and Seena Sherwood. Because Jeff and Seena are in love, she asks her husband Colby for a divorce later that night. Although Colby married Seena for her money and is having an affair, he refuses to consent to a divorce and leaves in a rage. In the meantime, Jack and Chet vie for the affections of Jill, who, having long held a love for Chet, becomes engaged to him. One day, Jack and Jill have a friendly picnic dinner at the Thayer farmhouse, and are forced to stay overnight due to torrential rain. Not wishing to arouse suspicion, Jill calls her friend Connie and asks her to give her an alibi. Jack gets drunk and confesses his love for Jill and then falls asleep. Later, Jeff and Seena meet at the farmhouse and confess their affair to Jill while Jack is still asleep. The next day, Chet is suspicious of both Jack and Jill, who refuse to reveal with whom and where they were the previous night. In anger, Chet hits Jack, who falls and is knocked unconscious. Chet is instantly remorseful, and is relieved when Jack recovers. Meanwhile, Jill shows Chet a telegram from Jeff, who has wired from Paris, where Seena is getting a divorce, and they plan to be married. Jeff also tells Jill to feel free to reveal to anyone that they were with her and Jack at the farmhouse the night before. Chet's suspicions are alleviated, but Jill falls into Jack's arms realizing they are meant for one another.
