Synopsis

When taxi driver Jimmy Donlin drives his best customer, Clifton, an old society newspaperman, to the home of socialite Edna Fletcher, who is about to marry a foreigner, he is surprised when the bride runs out of the house and tells him that she is fleeing her wedding. Jimmy reluctantly helps Edna and takes her to his modest apartment, where he hides her. Later, Jimmy drives Clifton back to Edna's, and is perplexed when he discovers that the wedding of the real Edna Fletcher is in progress. He then rushes back to his apartment, where the supposed Edna confesses that her real name is Mary Trenton. Mary tells Jimmy that she was modeling Edna's wedding gown when she was accused of stealing a pearl necklace that accidentally got caught on the dress. To avoid arousing the suspicion of the police, Jimmy asks his pal and fellow cab driver, Fingers Garrison, to break into Edna's house and secretly return the gown and necklace. When it is discovered that the necklace is a fake, Mary realizes that the real one was in fact stolen, and that the thief must be Arnold Stewart, a poor socialite who helped her escape on that fateful night so that she would be blamed. Mary and Jimmy take Stewart for a drive, while Fingers and Clifton search his apartment. When Stewart begins to make sexual advances towards Mary, Jimmy punches him. Jimmy and Mary return Stewart to his apartment, just as the police are arresting Fingers for breaking and entering. Mary tries to save Fingers by taking the blame herself, but she and her friends are exonerated when the necklace falls from Stewart's hat. With the mystery solved, Mary professes her love for Jimmy.
