Synopsis
The Range Busters--ranch foreman Dusty, Dave and Alibi--are hired in Texas by rancher Conroy to help transport horses to Bataan, in the Philippines, as part of a special commission for the Army. Conroy and his neighbor, rancher Ken Richards, also want to discover who has been stampeding and poisoning Richards' herds. After Captain Anders from the cavalry inspects the horses, Dusty and Dave follow the tire tracks of a speeding transport truck that has been disrupting the herd. They are fired upon and lose their assailants, but later set up a roadblock to stop the truck. When the occupants emerge holding guns, the cowboys turn the tables on their attackers and capture them, and then discover that the truck is filled with Japanese-made rifles. The outlaws escape with the help of Conroy's cook, Cookie, a Japanese spy who was thought to be Filipino. Dusty and Dave recapture the outlaws and have them arrested. Later they leave behind Conroy's attractive daughter Dallas, for whom they are both vying, and drive the horses to Galveston, Texas, where they are loaded on a ship bound for the Philippines. After a long voyage, Dusty and Dave deliver the horses to Captain Anders, and are then surprised to encounter Cookie in a Filipino café. Dave overhears Cookie telling German spy Miller that Richards is the United States contact for the spy ring. Dave attacks Cookie and Miller, and after a brawl, Cookie is arrested, but Miller goes free. To maintain appearances, the cowboys are also arrested, but Anders releases them after informing them that he has learned that the spies are plotting to destroy a valuable American harbor. When Dusty and Dave return home, they gather forces with Alibi and confront Richards. Richards tries to escape and Dave is forced to shoot him, after which they discover a load of dynamite on his ranch. Soon after, the Range Busters hear a radio report about the bombing of Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces, and leave the ranch to enlist in the Army.

Notes
According to a Hollywood Reporter news item, Hugh Preston worked on this film's screenplay. His contribution to the final film, however, has not been confirmed. Texas to Bataan was the first film in which David Sharpe, who replaced Ray Corrigan in the series, appears as a Range Buster. For further information on the series, see the entry for The Range Busters in AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1931-40; F3.3620, and consult the Series Index.
