Synopsis
Aware that women find him irresistible, Tony Maréchal never concerns himself with finances. After a visit to the racetrack leaves him penniless, he spends the night in the lavish apartment of the beautiful Muriel. When her wealthy benefactor, Dumonceaux, arrives early the next morning, Tony introduces himself as Muriel's cousin and accepts the gullible Dumonceaux's invitation to join them at a ski resort in Megève. Here Tony becomes the subject of a battle between Muriel and Dumonceaux's wife, Béatrice. He flees into the arms of the Baroness Minna von Strasshofer, who takes him aboard her Tahiti-bound yacht, but her sexual demands are so great that Tony seeks refuge with another guest, the naive Véronique. Upon arriving in Tahiti, Véronique informs Tony that she has inherited a tiny island that is rich in manganese. The opportunistic Tony persuades an Englishman, Lord Swift, to buy the rights to the ore deposits, but they soon learn that Véronique and her father have swindled them. After working his way back to Paris on a freighter, Tony is run down by a chauffeur-driven car belonging to a rich American widow. Exaggerating his injury, Tony permits the woman to move him into the Ritz but discovers that she is as voracious in her demands as the baroness. Momentarily depressed by his exhausting way of life, Tony considers pursuing a less strenuous vocation.
