Synopsis
Fifteen-year-old Susie Russell and her sister Clara are cheered by the news that their cello-playing father, who is presently out of work, has been offered a position with a symphony orchestra. Clara works as secretary to the head of the Starr advertising agency, which represents television singer Jeffrey Westcott, who is very attracted to Clara. After much persuasion, she agrees to go out with him, but their dates are frequently interrupted by Jeffrey's business. During a family celebration, Russell suffers a heart attack and is ordered to take a long rest. The next day, Susie decides to get a job to supplement Clara's income. Dressed in Clara's clothes, she auditions for a job as a nightclub singer and is hired after she convinces the owners that she is really nineteen. One night, Starr and Jeffrey stop by the club for a drink. Attracted to Susie, Starr asks her out, but Jeffrey realizes that she is underage and, not knowing that she is Clara's sister, decides to teach her a lesson. Meanwhile, Clara returns home and tunes in a radio broadcast from the club. Although Susie is using a pseudonym, Clara recognizes her voice and hurriedly takes a taxi to the club. When she learns that Susie has left with Starr, Clara telephones Starr at his home, and he informs her that Susie went home with Jeffrey. In the meantime, at Jeffrey's apartment, Susie, who is trying to seem sophisticated, accepts his offer of a "Westcott Special." When the special turns out to be a banana split, Susie realizes that Jeffrey is teasing her, but before she can leave, Clara arrives and angrily chastises Jeffrey. The next day, Starr fires Clara at the instigation of his wife, who believes that her husband is having an affair with his secretary. Clara, however, is sure that Jeffrey is behind her dismissal. Susie, who realizes that Clara is in love with Jeffrey, confronts him in Starr's office. There, she tells Jeffrey that Clara loves him and then angrily turns on Mrs. Starr. Impressed by her spunkiness, Starr hires Susie to sing with Jeffrey for one of the agency's biggest clients. Jeffrey and Clara are then reconciled.

The film's working title was Miss Television. The above credits were taken from a cutting continuity submitted with the copyright records. Concerning the film's depiction of television advertising, the Variety reviewer noted: "There's enough repetitious hammering of sales messages on the ear via radio. When the eyes supplement the ear with video's advent, button-pushing temptation will be even greater if 'Susie's' visual commercials are an example of what's to come." Although the film's credits read "introducing Nita Hunter," she had earlier appeared in films under the name Juanita Alvarez.
