Synopsis

Tailspin Tommy quits his job as stunt pilot for movie director Sheehan after he begins to suspect that someone in the film company has sabotaged the controls of his plane in order to obtain authentic crash footage. Daredevil pilot Earl Martin replaces Tommy, and the pilots clash after Martin recklessly crashes his plane while flying with Tommy's sweetheart, Betty Lou. Sheehan, in need of a pilot to perform a dangerous dog fight with Martin, asks Tommy's pal Skeeter to execute the stunt, and Skeeter, desperately in need of money to pay for his sister's operation, accepts the job. Tommy, fearing for his friend's life, kidnaps Skeeter and takes his place in the air. During the dog fight, Martin is shot down when the blanks in Tommy's gun turn out to be real bullets, and Tommy is arrested for his murder. Things look grim for Tommy until he remembers an argument that he overheard between Martin and Sheehan, and takes off after Sheehan's train. Meanwhile, the sheriff is on Tommy's tail until Skeeter discovers some photographs that show Sheehan replacing the bullets in Tommy's gun. The sheriff flies to meet Sheehan's train, arriving just in time to obtain Sheehan's confession that he killed Martin because the pilot had stolen the affections of his wife and then deserted her.
