Synopsis

Upon being released from prison, Joe is reunited with his 10-year-old son, Joey, and gets a job; but his employer's wife, who knows of his record, has him fired. Joe and Joey go to Wichita Falls, where Joe becomes a driller in the Stoddard oil fields. They are befriended by the foreman, Gus, but Joe is again fired because of his past history. Unemployed and desperate, Joe calls upon Benny, a former prison pal, to help him kidnap the Stoddard boy and hold him for ransom. They carry out the crime and hide out in a shack to await the ransom payment. They are discovered by a low-flying plane; and as the police close in, Joe saves the little boy from being killed by the other kidnaper at the cost of his own life. Joey, a witness to his father's heroism, is adopted by their friend, Gus.
