Synopsis
In 1915, British officer Derek Marbury weds Lucy Neville after a whirlwind courtship. Marbury is called back to his regiment as the honeymoon begins because all leaves have been cancelled in preparation for a German offensive. Marbury's best man, Gilroy Hayworth, is scheduled to go to the German lines on a reconnaissance mission. His brother Bob is angered by Gilroy's fears about the mission, and when Gilroy kills himself, Hayworth and Marbury cover it up and Marbury takes his place in the trenches. Later, Marbury wakes up in a hospital suffering from shell shock and amnesia. An orderly gives him the name John Drake, and after he recovers, he is sent to a non-fighting unit. Hayworth sees him and reports back to Lucy that her husband is alive and probably deserted. Hayworth wants Lucy to divorce Marbury and marry him, but she refuses to believe that her husband has done anything dishonorable and continues to hope for his return. At his new unit, Marbury applies for a commission and eventually goes back to the fighting with fellow officer Peabody. Marbury distinguishes himself in combat and is promoted to major. He meets flier Alan Neville, Lucy's brother, who plans to have Marbury join him on a visit to Lucy's. After Alan dies, Marbury and Peabody visit Lucy and her son Ricky to offer their help in locating her husband. Seeing Lucy does not jog Marbury's memory, but Lucy recognizes him and spends time with him without revealing her identity. As he helps Lucy to hunt for her "husband," the memory-less Marbury falls in love. Hayworth recognizes Marbury, but assumes he wants to keep up a masquerade and hopes that he will leave, freeing Lucy to marry him. After Hayworth calls Marbury by name, Marbury remembers Gilroy's suicide and the ill-fated mission and collapses. When he comes to, however, he discovers his amnesia is gone, and finds Lucy waiting for him.

Although the viewed print contained a 1933 copyright statement, the film was officially registered in July 1934. According to a May 1934 Hollywood Reporter news item, George Yohalem replaced W. T. Lackey as producer because of the latter's illness. Another May 1934 Hollywood Reporter news item announced Robert Planck as photographer, but Bob MacKenzie is credited on screen as well as in reviews and production charts.
