Brief Synopsis

U.S.Army Lieutenant Michael Banning is sent to Mexican-owned southern California to investigate lawless land grabbing. There, he (and his horse Tarzan) wins a golden bridle in a riding contest sponsored by Carmelita (Kathryn Crawford), daughter of the Spanish Grandee Don Manuel (Frank Beale.) This irrates Ramirez (Gino Corrado), who has plans for Carmelita himself, and he attempts to steal the bridle but Banning subdues him. Maddox (J.P.McGowan), leader of the land-grabbers, has Banning jailed.

Synopsis

Michael Banning, a U.S. Army lieutenant sent to Southern California to investigate lawless land-grabbing, wins a golden bridle in a riding contest sponsored by Carmelita, daughter of Spanish grandee Don Manuel. He thus incurs the enmity of Ramírez, who is in love with her; the Mexican attempts to steal the bridle, but Banning subdues him. Maddux, leader of a gang that plans to steal Don Manuel's land, sends a spy to follow Banning, who returns from San José with the news that California has been admitted to the Union; Maddux then has him jailed. When Maddux tries to force Don Manuel into surrendering his grants, Ramírez turns against him. Banning, freed by his servant, arrives with a rescue party, and peace is restored.
