Howard Davies directed the premiere of David Hare's play at London's National Theater in 1989; it was soon followed by a US debut Off Broadway at the Public Theater, directed by the playwright himself. The play subsequently opened on Broadway on October 26, 1992. It closed on November 4, 1992.
