Schindler's List: Images of the Steven Spielberg Film

"Making Schindler's List was an experience that changed my life. I made the film with my mind and my heart, and it led me to find my faith and soul," directed Steven Spielberg reveals on the tenth anniversary of his highly acclaimed film in his foreword to the new book, Schindler's List: Images of the Steven Spielberg Film (Newmarket Press). "The moment we started filming at the gates of Auschwitz-Birkenau outside Krakow, Poland, I realized that if I had been standing on that spot 50 years before, I too, most likely, would have been killed. That thought never left my mind and doesn't to this day."

With more than 50 stunning photographs by famed photographer David James, this remarkable keepsake book, printed on high-quality 100# stock, offers readers a never-before-seen look at the filmmaking experience, before and behind the cameras, during the memorable 72-day shoot in Krakow, Poland. Using the same spectacular black and white photography in which the film was shot, James gives readers a closer look at the images that defined the unforgettable film. From expansive shots of the crowded ghettos to intimate portraits of human emotion, this book offers readers a chance to view the epic film from every angle.

The book's publication coincides with the release of Schindler's List on DVD by Universal Studios Home Video on March 9, 2004 to mark the tenth anniversary of the Shoah Foundation, established by Spielberg to videotape and preserve testimonies of Holocaust survivors and witnesses. Schindler's List: Images of the Steven Spielberg Film also marks the first time that the director has authorized a book on the film, and the first time that James' photographs are published in book form. The book is currently available from most major book store chains and specialty book shops everywhere.
