Synopsis
Conscientious objector Dan and student Sarah leave Berkeley for life on a San Marin County sheep farm. There they are visited by her father, veteran sailor Jeffries. Excluded from Sarah and Jeffries' reminiscences, Dan becomes jealous. His resentment is intensified by Jeffries' jibes at his pacifism. Jeffries, on the other hand, is shocked to learn that his pregnant daughter is unmarried and that her lover, a former medical student, intends to deliver the baby. When her drunken father and Dan argue violently Sarah runs from the farmhouse. Finding her in a field, Dan helps her home. While Sarah gives birth to a son, her drunken father lunges at the locked door and suffers a fatal heart attack.
