Synopsis
Having escaped from prison in a garbage truck, Hap Connors heads south to find the man who framed him. On the way, he meets his old friend Frisco, who is rustling cattle previously stolen by Jim Blont, a banker in the next town. While Hap and Frisco talk, Blont's men hold up a stagecoach, killing the driver, and then scatter some of the stolen goods on the trail leading to Frisco's hideout, hoping the sheriff will blame him for the crime. When Hap rides into town, he finds a pair of shoes, which unknown to him, were on the robbed stage. He stops at the first ranch, where he meets the owner of the shoes, Ruth Warren. She hires him as a ranch hand and invites him to a dance that evening. At the dance, Hap learns that Ruth is engaged to Blont, but is unaware that Blont is the alias of the man who framed him. When Blont sees Hap at the dance, he accuses him of being an escaped convict, but Hap escapes through a window, aided by Frisco. Hap sneaks into Ruth's house to beg her to postpone the marriage. While he is there, he is arrested by the sheriff for robbery and murder. Blont's men engineer a jail break hoping to kill Hap when he escapes, but he manages to fool them using the file that a disguised Frisco smuggles into his cell. Hap disrupts Blont's wedding, kidnapping Ruth. She escapes and overhears some of Blont's men talking about Blont's role in Hap's jail sentence. Meanwhile, Hap has returned to Ruth's ranch to feed some motherless kittens. Blont spots his horse and they struggle. Frisco and Ruth arrive just in time to save Hap. Ruth and Hap kiss, her engagement to Blont forgotten.
