Based on the novel "Cloud Atlas" written by David Mitchell and published by Hodder and Stoughton in 2004.

The directing trio shot the historic/sci-fi epic in parallel using two separate film crews.

Actress Natalie Portman gave a copy of "Cloud Atlas" to Lana Wachowski In 2005 on the set of "V for Vendetta." A year later, Andy and Lana Wachowski had written a screenplay for the book's film adaptation.

Warner Bros. purchased all North American distribution rights for an estimated $20 million.
