Synopsis
In London, Steve Layton, an MI5 agent, is assigned to work with Scotland Yard as an undercover agent. Posing as a Tangiers bank robber, Layton infiltrates the gang led by James Dawson, who poses as an exporter. Layton becomes a trusted member of the gang and is attracted to Ruth Lombard, a widow. Soon his ideas about criminals begin to change with his growing respect for their sense of honor. Ruth sees him talking to Inspector Adams, his contact, but Layton convinces her that he is now a loyal member of the gang and would not reveal the planned jewel robbery. After the robbery, a fence identifies Layton as an agent, but he is able to talk his way out of it until Adams arrives to arrest the gang. Layton is unable to convince them of his sincere loyalty, and he is deeply troubled to receive congratulations and the reward money.
