Synopsis

Linda Parker sells illicit sweepstakes tickets from her cigar stand at the Tilton Hotel. Her supplier is Jerry Howard, a cigar salesman and fiancé of hotel switchboard operator Nellie Conrad. Linda is attracted to Bill Collins, one of her customers, unaware that he is really an FBI agent assigned to smash the counterfeiting ring that is selling millions of dollars of worthless sweepstakes tickets. When Linda learns that Bill is a government agent, she refuses to cooperate with him until "Pop" Andrews, the elderly hotel elevator operator, commits suicide because the ticket that he thought was a grand prize winner turned out to be counterfeit. The old man's death compels Linda and Jerry to help Bill with his investigation. Linda infiltrates the rackets when she is hired by Paul Duncan, an intermediary in the organization, and wins his confidence. Posing as the boss of a rival syndicate, Bill also joins forces with Duncan. Just as Linda and Bill uncover a list of syndicate members throughout the country, Duncan unmasks McBride, another government agent, and orders his death. To save McBride, Bill blows his cover and then orders an immediate raid on the syndicate. Duncan escapes the dragnet, however, and kidnaps Linda, to whom he reveals that he is the brains behind the racket. Linda then alerts Bill, and after a harrowing car chase, Bill rescues Linda and arrests Duncan.
