The Man Called Flintstone

1h 27m 1966

Brief Synopsis

The unmistakable Fred Flintstone is mistaken for a famous international spy! Fred's exact double, famed secret agent Rock Slag, has been injured on assignment. Now, Fred must step into Slag's trench coat and meet the exotic and notorious Tanya in Paris so the Flintstones and their neighbors, the Rubbles, leave on a trip that the others believe is a vacation. But S.M.I.R.K. agents desperately try to foil Fred's meeting. Finally after chasing halfway across Europe, Fred discovers Tanya has been the bait to trap him, or Rock Slag, that is. Although captured, Fred remains true to the spy's code and refuses to talk no matter how much they torture Barney.

Synopsis

When master spy Rock Slag is disabled by henchmen of the sinister Green Goose, head of SMIRK, the Stone Age Secret Service calls upon Fred Flintstone, who is an exact double of Rock Slag, to impersonate the agent and track down Green Goose and his seductive accomplice, Tanya. Accompanied by his wife and daughter and by Mr. and Mrs. Rubble, Fred goes on a supposed vacation trip to Paris. Tanya has moved on to Rome, however, and the two families follow. Though Fred makes contact with Tanya, she leads him into a trap, and he and Barney Rubble end up as prisoners in an abandoned amusement park that serves as headquarters for Green Goose. Both men resist torture until the real Rock Slag arrives to put an end to Green Goose's ambitious plan to conquer all of Eu-rock. Once the madman is captured, he and his coconspirators, including Tanya, are sent off into outer space in one of Green Goose's own secret missiles. With Eu-rock saved, the Flintstones and the Rubbles return to their stone age homes.

Trivia

This movie was produced right after production of the original "Flintstones, The" (1960) series ended, and was intended as a swan song for the characters.

Henry Corden, who provided Fred Flintstone's (uncredited) singing voice, also voiced several incidental characters on "Flintstones, The" (1960) and would later take over Fred's voice after 'Alan Reed' 's death in 1977.
