Synopsis
Approaching the harbor of a South Sea island, hard, narrowminded Captain Adams expresses his disapproval of the "indecent" native people and their music, while his lovely young wife, Martha, is secretly drawn to the romantic atmosphere in general and to Tonia (the grandson of an American) in particular. While Tonia tricks Adams into crossing the island in search of pearls, Martha attends a Shark God festival and falls further under Tonia's spell. He asks her to stay, but she dutifully leaves with Adams, and--just before they reach New Bedford--she jumps overboard.
