Synopsis

Beverly, a plain and lonely secretary in New York City, receives as a prize three free lessons at a dance studio. She makes use of them and is told by her instructor, Steve, that she has a talent for dancing. When Steve romances and flatters her into signing a long-term agreement for lessons, Beverly takes him seriously, and they begin an affair. Steve realizes that he loves Beverly, and he tries to tell her that he is not all he has pretended to be; he even offers to disregard the contract, but she refuses. He then arranges to be absent from one of the lessons, and she is shepherded through the evening by Frank, the studio manager. Frank also tells her she has a talent for dancing and uses, word for word, Steve's initial approach to her. Beverly comes to her senses and breaks with Steve, who then tries to convince her that he really loves her. They part, but Beverly is soon overcome by loneliness and returns to him.
