Synopsis

When Holly Ripple falls in love with notorious gambler Malcolm Lascalles, her concerned Aunt Myra warns Holly's father, Colonel Ripple, of the affair. Before the colonel can intervene, however, he is mortally wounded by Bill Heaver, a member of a gang led by rustler Gamecock. Receiving word of her father's critical condition, Holly hastens to the ranch, but arrives just after the colonel dies. With the colonel eliminated, the rustling intensifies. While out riding the range one day, Cappy, a Ripple ranch hand, stumbles upon Heaver and Renn Frayne while they are stealing some horses. When Holly rides onto the scene, Heaver insists upon killing both witnesses, but Renn refuses, forcing a showdown that results in Heaver's death. Perceiving a sense of honor in Renn, Holly offers him a job at the ranch, and after initially refusing, he changes his mind and accepts her offer. At first resented by Laigs and Brazos, two of Holly's ranch hands, Renn wins their confidence when Lascalles accuses them of stealing horses and he proves their innocence. As Holly and Renn fall in love, the rejected Lascalles determines to gain control of the Ripple ranch, and to accomplish this, he joins forces with Gamecock. The pair plot to ambush Renn as he returns from the market with the profits from the cattle drive, but as Renn rides into view, Lascalles decides not to split the profits and shoots Gamecock. Leaving the disabled Gamecock behind, Lascalles and the gang pursue Renn, Laigs and Brazos into the mountains, where they are trapped. Critically wounded, Gamecock rides to the ranch for help and the hands rush to Renn's rescue, defeating Lascalles and his gang of rustlers.
