Synopsis

Police officer Mike Hannigan is on the verge of exposing the corrupt official who is working in league with a gang of racketeers when he is murdered by the man he is pursuing. Mike's son Steve, a law student, foresakes his studies to avenge his father's murder. Steve's sweetheart, Betty Casey, persuades him that the best way to serve his father is to join the police force, and consequently, Steve enters the rookie school under the instruction of Captain Daniel Casey, his father's friend and Betty's father. In hopes of finding the murderer's trail, Steve begins to cut classes, and as a result, his studies begin to suffer. Just as Steve finds the clue he has been searching for, he is dismissed from police school and denied his badge. Steve becomes so embittered that he suspects his best friend, Joe Kelly, of stealing Betty's affections. Consequently, when Steve's clue points to Joe's uncle Jim, a district leader, Steve accuses Joe of withholding information about his father's murder. Meanwhile, Jim decides that Steve must be eliminated and delegates his chief lieutenant, Ben, to kill him. In the ensuing struggle, Joe takes a bullet meant for Steve, and as Steve guns down Jim in self-defense, Captain Casey arrives to return Steve's badge and reinstate him in the force.
