Synopsis
Gail Allen, the very successful manager of a Fifth Avenue shop, has taken a vow of independence and foresaken the idea of marriage. Her convictions are tested when she meets Bill Burnett, a visitor from Bali who falls in love with the independent businesswoman. Although warned by her good friend Lorna Smith that there is a very slim line between freedom and loneliness, Gail rejects Bill's proposal of marriage. It is only after Bill returns to Bali that she realizes she cannot live without him and hurries to the island, only to learn that Bill is to marry Noel Van Ness, the woman who has pursued him across continents. Heartbroken, Gail returns to New York on the rebound and proposes to her erstwhile suitor Eric Sinclair. As Eric and Gail plan their wedding, however, Eric learns that Bill has called off his marriage to Noel and gracefully abdicates the alter to Bill.
