Synopsis

Border patrol pilots Lieutenant Nick Terris and Lieutenant Pete Taylor are rivals for the affections of Janet Curtis, the daughter of their colonel. Nick's father is the captain of the S.S. Meridian , on which Janet is traveling from Mexico. Because he and Pete have been stationed at a post far away from the harbor, Nick asks his father to keep an eye on Janet and to put in a good word for him. Also on board the Meridan is Frank Harland, a former flier with the border patrol who was forced to resign his position because of his suspicious dealings with a known band of air outlaws. From the ship, Harland sends a message to Nick that he claims is from Curtis, instructing Nick to pick up a man named Jordan. Nick arrives at the air field and picks up Jordan, a bank robber, who forces him to fly out of the country and then knocks him out. When Pete sees Nick flying back to the field, he follows him in his own airplane. Because he suspects Pete, Nick is silent about the origins of the message and is forced to resign. After Nick takes a deckhand job on the Meridan , Janet, aware that she is in love with him, follows him on board. Unknown to Janet and Nick, Jordan's gang, which includes Harland and a man named Powell, is planning to rob the Meridian of a payroll for a Mexican company. Powell breaks into the captain's office while Nick and Janet are there and tells them that, unless they hand over the payroll, the large seaplane that is flying overhead will drop a bomb on the ship. After Nick struggles with Powell and overpowers him, he decides to take his place for the pickup and find out who else is involved in the robbery. In disguise, Nick is picked up by the seaplane, which is flown by Harland. The Meridian then sends a message to the border patrol, and Pete flies out to help. Nick is pushed out of the seaplane, but Pete picks him up on a beach. The two pilots then follow the seaplane, force it to land, and apprehend the robbers. In anticipation of Nick and Janet's wedding on the Meridian , Pete skywrites "good luck" to the couple.
