Synopsis

Gilda Gillespie lives with her aunt in New York. With Detective Burke on her trail, Gilda regrets her life of crime and tries to quit a counterfeiting gang run by Brewster. The gang's accusations that a woman lacks nerve sting Gilda, however, and she helps them rob Chester Madison's jewelry to prove them wrong. Nonetheless, Gilda's conscience again starts to bother her, and she returns the jewelry before leaving for Hollywood to escape the gang. In Hollywood, Gilda goes to work under the name "Mary Brown" as secretary to bank president Bill Rhodes. Soon they are in love with each other and Bill invites her to a party of artists at his home after discovering her skill at etching. Another guest, Zarabella, Gilda's teacher in New York, recognizes her because he was almost forced into her counterfeit schemes. When he does not expose her identity to Bill, however, Gilda gratefully thanks Zarabella, and explains the shame she feels of her past. At the bank, her old gang appears, but Gilda refuses to fall in with their plans. When Bill is abducted during the robbery, Gilda reveals her true identity to police detective Burke and leads the police to the gang's hideout. Risking her own life, she saves Bill, then willingly accepts his proposal when she realizes that her past does not matter to him.
