Synopsis

Dick Talbot, a fast talking oil engineer, and his partner Andy Jennings. are sent by the Peerless Indies Corporation to investigate the mysterious coded calls for help that have been emanating from the company's oil fields on a remote East Indies island. The pair, posing as itenerant oil workers, have little time to investigate. Soon after they arrive, they are shanghaied and sentenced to a labor camp by Gaddi Sang, the local police chief who is in league with Dowling and Butler, two agents for the oil company. The men are involved in a plot to defraud the Peerless Indies Corporation by using convicts for cheap labor while turning in regular payroll records to the home office and pocketing the difference. At the camp, Dick meets Laura Larson, the company's secretary, who confides that she has been sending the calls for help. In a letter that he entrusts to Benedict, a prisoner who is to be released after completing his terms, Dick details the cruel and inhumane conditions of the camp. When Benedict is gunned down by the guards, however, Dowling and Butler find the letter and realize that Dick and Andy have been sent by the New York office. In response, Butler orders their elimination, but Dick and Andy overpower their guards and appropriate a cache of nitroglycerine. Dick then allows Butler and Dowling to escape. In their absence, Dick orchestrates a revolt of the prisoners and when Dowling and Butler return with reinforcements, they are met by the armed prisoners, forcing the two to seek refuge in an oil derrick. They meet their death whens Dick throws a well aimed container of nitroglycerin at the derrick. For his achievements, Dick is appointed manager of the office and proposes to Laura.
